The Meaning Behind Chris Jericho's Music Persona, Mongoose McQueen
Apart from his celebrated in-ring career, Chris Jericho is an author, actor, TV personality, podcaster, and cruise enthusiast. However, rock and heavy metal fans who have been with Jericho’s band, Fozzy, from the start will remember Mongoose McQueen — a moniker that Y2J came up with for his rock ‘n roll band after distancing himself from his wrestling persona.
Initially, Fozzy covered songs by other artists and created their backstory, claiming that they signed with a Japanese record company that went out of business, which left Fozzy in Japan for 20 years while other Western bands stole their songs. Jericho adopted the persona of Mongoose McQueen, the arrogant and disrespectful lead singer who insisted that he and his wrestling persona were two separate people.
However, Jericho’s McQueen persona was a gimmick to attract fans, saying, “People don’t pay to see David Lee Roth. They pay to see Diamond Dave [...] And that’s what it is with Fozzy.” Eventually, Jericho admitted that he has always been McQueen, and today, Fozzy is widely regarded as a credible metal band, with Jericho using his main persona in his rock career.
